Do I Need A Liquor License

VEYS Pierre, Jean-Michel ARROYO, Vincent Jagerschmidt, The squadron of hotheads, Volume 1: A man named Boyington, Paris, Zephyr Editions, 2010, 48 p.

editions Zephyr specializing in comic books on air combat, have launched a new series on the history of the famous squadron -Heads Burned " (VMF-214 in U.S. military parlance) , well known to the French public through the television series of the same name, still running on some channels the public today.

More specifically, this first volume focuses on the future leader of the unit, "Greg" Boyington, and commitment to the American Volunteer Group (AVG) of Claire Chennault pilots fighting the Japanese in China from 1940, before the attack on Pearl Harbor and entered the war the United States (Dec. 7, 1941).

is a comic book interesting on several points. The first is that it dismantles a little heroic image of the "Flying Tigers " (nickname of the AVG pilots because of the shark mouth painted on the front of their P- 40) who met at the outset, many difficulties in the Chinese theater before being operational. The same thing can be affirmed on the golf Boyington, just became the legendary figure of unity. The second point is the quality of the drawings, and particularly those devices or scenes of aerial combat, quite successful, however, without also perhaps the designer's mastery of the series Grand Duke . In contrast, the character designs are less revealing. There is also a bit disappointed by the board devoted to the attack on Pearl Harbor, rather bland. It is nevertheless a promising first book and will examine the following with great attention!
